VT Youth In Action: A Day at the Statehouse

Calling all Vermont high school students who want to organize and work together to create change!

  •  Are you passionate about local issues and want to explore solutions?
  •  Are you curious about the political process and want to learn how laws get passed?
  •  Do you want to meet other students from around the state, listen to their ideas, and work together to solve problems? 

If you answered YES to any of the above, this is your chance! Join us for “Vermont Politics In Action,” a free event at the Statehouse for youth who are ready to make change in their communities.

You will experience how laws get passed at the Statehouse with a legislator as your guide. Attend a panel discussion with advocates, learn about the political process, and get a chance to explore and discuss your viewpoints– working towards real solutions.

Lock & Code: Intro to Cybersecurity

Combat digital attacks, learn about cryptography and modular arithmetic models, and get a glimpse into the ever-changing world of technology.

This free program offers a experiential learning adventure, diving into the innovations at the intersection of cybersecurity and AI.

Offering a wealth of workshops and technical concepts, the experience will offer hands-on explorations and an interactive Q&A with a panel of cyber professionals. Expand your understanding of the digital world with this technological adventure!

What are the One Day Adventures?

The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont will be hosting a series of incredible free programs for Vermont high school students called “One Day Adventures!”

Each “Adventure” session is led by experts in the field and is designed to offer a meaningful and educational experience, sharing the same values and missions of our larger Summer Institutes.

Every Vermont high school student in grades 9-12 is welcome to attend, whether they have attended a GIV Summer Session or if they are new to GIV!

One Day Adventures are FREE for any and every Vermont high school student. Registering is easy, and everyone who registers will be welcome to attend.

Health Careers Field Day || October 18, 2025

Set at Champlain College, this One Day Adventure connects you with peers who share your interests and ignite your passions as you explore game design, digital art, programming, and more!

    Every activity combines to create a shared interest community for all things tech, design, and creative, providing a glimpse at what professional technology and design is all about. Lunch will be provided.

    At this completely free event, you will have the opportunity to learn easy, yet life saving skills such as CPR, bleeding control and patient assessment from trained medical professionals, as well as gaining insight into the innerworkings of our Emergency Medical Services.

    The day will conclude with a mass casualty incident simulation where you will have the opportunity to put your new skills into action by assessing and triaging patients during this fun and exciting scenario! Lunch will be provided.

Hosted by GlobalFoundries, students will see how professional engineers work to analyze and solve problems through their designs. As a mid-week offering, we invite educators to bring their class but can also accommodate individual students who are interested in attending.

    Would you like to learn how to impact issues facing Vermont? Do you want to meet other students from around the state who want to work for a better Vermont? Are you concerned about the housing crisis in Vermont?

    Join us for “A Day at the Capital,” a free event about taking action!

    • Tour the Statehouse with a legislator as your guide.
    • Attend a panel discussion with policy makers about the housing crisis in Vermont.
    • Meet and share lunch with elected officials and students from around Vermont.
    • Learn about how VT government develops laws and the challenges to move legislation forward.
    • Engage in a floor debate for proposed bills in a Legislative simulation, addressing VT’s housing crisis.
    • Join a session on organizing and mobilizing youth for change, led by VSARN.
