Program Director - Mathematical Sciences

The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont is seeking a SUMMER PROGRAM DIRECTOR for the Kenneth I. Gross and Anthony Trono Governor’s Institute on Mathematical Sciences.

If you have a passion for inspiring young people to expand their horizons in mathematics, and have skills that would translate to summer program management and oversight of a staff team, we would love to hear from you! The ideal candidate will be organized, creative, and have a sense of humor.

Passionate about the power of education? Join AmeriCorps and bring your vision and skills to the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont!

This twelve-month, full-time AmeriCorps role will have you reaching out into all corners of Vermont to communicate with motivated high schoolers and their teachers and advocates to engage them in GIV opportunities that change lives! You’ll use your outstanding organizational and communication skills to clear pathways for disadvantaged students to participate and your technological wizardry to help adapt award-winning programs for modern times. You’ll communicate with some of our 10,000+ alumni to solicit and profile their inspiring stories. You’ll spend your days writing, managing projects, communicating with outreach partners and alumni, conducting research, obtaining resources and funding support, and working independently within a close-knit team to make sure that GIV’s 2023 programs are successful and transformational for the hundreds of young Vermonters who attend.

We’re looking for a flexible, entrepreneurial self-starter who is also a great team player, who understands the power of education and is passionate about helping Vermont’s underserved students reach their full potential. The Governor’s Institutes is Vermont’s 39-year old statewide educational equity nonprofit, whose mission is to help Vermont create productive, empowered, and engaged young adults by reaching out to diverse learners with high-impact, world-class learning opportunities that stimulate their personal growth and expand their aspirations, perspectives, and career horizons.

This is a federally-funded VYDC AmeriCorps position that pays a small living stipend (about $400/week if spread over 52 weeks) plus educational scholarship money and other benefits. Typically, most hiring takes place in March, April and May.

GIV sometimes also hires Full-Season Senior Counselors. This summer-long role supports high needs students as part of the staff teams at several Institutes. Requires high energy and academic training and/or professional experience working with young people with physical, emotional or behavioral challenges or trauma backgrounds. GIV experience is a plus.
