The GIV Hiring Process

Typically, hiring for the Summer Institutes takes place during the months of March, April and May.

Institute Directors often lead the process and work on building teams at their Institutes throughout the year, but we welcome inquiries and interest throughout the year to share with the teams at each Institute.

Roles at GIV Summer Institutes

Institute Directors & Leadership Team

GIV Institute Directors oversee the delivery of our residential summer programs, and are passionate about engaging young people. In every Institute, Directors facilitate the three pillars of GIV: Content, Community, and Logistics.

Institute Directors lead and support a smart, motivated, and empathetic staff that is the hallmark of all GIV Institutes. The person in this role will oversee logistics, establish systems, and support staff to seamlessly pivot to a “Plan B” when required. The Institute Director will support staff in ensuring high quality content, community building, and creating a safe environment where students feel seen, respected, and are a part of a dedicated team of learners.

This role hires and manages a team of staff and faculty with backgrounds in the Institute topic, creating and overseeing a cohesive and creative team responsible for coordinating and running an exciting, high-impact program for their students.

Community & Operations Director

GIV Community & Operations Directors create vibrant, supportive, and compelling environments for students. This role focuses on fostering community, encouraging student interaction, and helping students build lasting memories while supporting their mental health and overall well-being. Ideal candidates should have experience in organizing events, building community, and demonstrating leadership within a student-centered environment.

Institute Wellness Leader

GIV Wellness Leaders are the primary on-site staff member ensuring the well-being and safety of dozens of high school students and staff during our intensive summer Institutes. This role acts as an integral part of a close-knit community, fostering a supportive and healthy environment where young people can flourish.

Institute Nurse

GIV Institute Nurses proactively support the health and wellbeing of the teenagers and staff at our residential summer programs, and are passionate about opportunities for young people. In this role, you live on campus with the community.

Institute Mental Health Counselors

GIV Mental Health Counselors serve as the primary on-site mental health support for staff and students, helping them navigate challenges related to stress, anxiety, social adjustment, and emotional well-being in an immersive learning environment. This role includes both proactive wellness support and responsive intervention for individual students as needed.

Institute Staff / Teacher

These are the folks who share knowledge, passion, and expertise to make our Institutes a learning adventure.

Institute Staff roles vary at each Institute. GIV Staff work together to support students in their learning and in their connections by participating fully and proactively in community life. Staff will often teach classes, helping to facilitate an experience of academic, social, and personal growth for the students at the Institute. Staff work to foster a constructive and generative classroom experience for students and partner with the Institute Leadership team to build a deeply connected and supportive community.

Resident Advisor

These are the folks who really make the GIV magic happen!

Resident Advisors work directly with students and work as a team to create a safe, inclusive learning community for the students at GIV. Resident Advisors live on campus during the Institute, sometimes with 1-2 days before or after the Institute to help with planning, preparations, and training.

Resident Advisors do more than just support students-- they are active and vibrant members of the learning communities who often share their experiences and skills alongside the Institute Teachers and Leadership team. They are given opportunities to present, educate, and gain valuable experience in education or in their specialized field.

Presenter

Do you have a unique skill, experience, or lesson that you'd be interested in sharing with students in a presentation, workshop, or lecture? Presenters are financially supported for their time and can sometimes offer life-changing knowledge that can benefit students as they become future leaders.

Our Institute Teams are always looking for experts to bring their knowledge and passion into our learning communities to share ideas, concepts, and opportunities.
