Alumni Spotlight: Reflections from Max Bronstein, a GIV Alum and Donor!

Growing up in a small Vermont town, Max Bronstein had never experienced anything like the Arts Institute in 2008. Surrounded by talented young artists, musicians, writers, and creators from across the state, he discovered not only a deeper appreciation for the arts, but a new sense of what was possible for his own future.

“GIV helped me see that making a living as a musician was actually possible.”

Today, Max plays music professionally and remain deeply connected to the creative community he first encountered through GIV. As a monthly donor, Max now gives back to help ensure other Vermont students can experience that same inspiration, connection, and sense of possibility.

What’s one memory from GIV that still sticks with you?

“Hearing Eugene Uman’s composition Facing the Sun performed live [at the Evening Artist Series] completely blew me away. I had never experienced that style of music or that level of improvisation and musicianship before. I also remember hearing songs other students were writing and being amazed by how talented they were.”

How did GIV shape your life afterward?

“GIV introduced me to what it feels like to exist in a supportive arts community — something I’ve gone on to build my career around.”

What stayed with you from the experience?

“One of the biggest things I took away was an appreciation for artistic disciplines beyond my own. Music is my focus, but GIV gave me a lasting appreciation for visual arts, poetry, and writing.”

Why do programs like GIV matter, especially in Vermont?

“Vermont can feel isolating. GIV was the first time I was surrounded by so many talented young people with different creative skills. It created an environment of inspiration and creativity that I never would have experienced otherwise.”

Why do you support GIV today?

“I want other students to have the same opportunity I had — to be inspired in a supportive, vibrant, and creative environment.”

GIV continues to open doors for talented young Vermonters, helping them find collaborators, mentors, confidence, and creative direction. Your support helps ensure the next generation of students can experience the same transformative opportunities.
