GIV Cares About Your Health and Is Monitoring COVID-19

The team here at the Governor’s Institutes of Vermont is aware of the current uncertainty surrounding public events & gatherings due to COVID-19. We also know that students and families may have questions about how this current situation could potentially affect our programs this summer. Our team wants you to know that we are thinking a lot about the possible impact this situation may have on GIV and how we can best prepare for a variety of scenarios. We are closely monitoring recommendations from the CDC and VT Department of Health, and will be constantly reevaluating all health and safety concerns as they pertain to GIV’s programs this summer.

GIV is currently planning to move forward as scheduled and host our 10 Institutes throughout June & July. However, as new information becomes available over the coming months, we will continue to reassess how this global health crisis may affect each of our programs. Cancellation will be avoided where possible but with the unpredictability of this situation and with many people & organizations involved, we acknowledge that it may become necessary to cancel some or all of the Institutes.

So please continue to apply for the Institutes with the hope that they will go on as expected. If the decision is made at any point to cancel an Institute, all money you have paid towards enrollment will be refunded, including your application fee. We are optimistic that the recent cancellations and precautions taken around the globe will have a positive impact and allow life to return to normal as we move from spring to summer.

Assuming we are able to hold the Institutes this summer as planned, we promise we will work hard to ensure our programs are as healthy and safe as possible. GIV has always required pre-Institute health questionnaires and arrival-day health screenings which help us stay proactive when it comes to the well being of our students and staff. As an added measure this summer, we’ll be updating our health screening procedures to include questions about international travel in the prior two weeks or exposure to any known carriers of the Coronavirus. We’ll monitor the health of students & staff during the Institutes, and respond promptly and appropriately if someone becomes symptomatic. Over the next few weeks we will continue to research new procedures and policies that can help to keep our students safe this summer.

For current information pertaining to GIV, check back here on our website or give our office a call at 802-865-4448. For more general statewide info, we recommend checking out the Vermont Department of Health’s website, which is being updated regularly. Thank you for your continued interest in GIV and we hope to see everyone this summer!
